PCL Day Trips: Lake Travis -- Austin, Texas

Austin is one of the best cities in the country, and since it's located about 20 minutes from Round Rock, that was all three of my closest friends from San Diego State University needed to join me for a weekend when the Albuquerque Isotopes visited Central Texas.

Ferris Shahrestani is a member of a Boat Club that's quite similar to a vacation timeshare. We made plans to hit Lake Travis for an afternoon before a game.

The threat of rain made us question whether we'd even make it on the lake. We drove out there, fully expecting that we'd turn around immediately and head back to the hotel. We even got a phone call from an employee at the boat club, who was no doubt hoping that we'd tell him we were canceling.

We're dumb, stubborn and adventurous. So we went for it. It rained on us a little, but not bad. We essentially had the entire lake to ourselves. We pulled a tube and did our best dolphin impressions.

Of course I busted out the GoPro to document our shenanigans. That's privilege video, however, and won't be shared on this blog.

Afterward, we got into a discussion about where we would attend college, knowing everything that we know about college, weather, school, college co-eds, sports, and overall college experience. Of course, the conversation begins with, "if you didn't go to San Diego State, where would you go?"

For all of us, the University of Texas at Austin was in the top five. It might even be in my top three. I can't imagine what it must be like on this lake when the weather is spectacular and there's college students enjoying themselves everywhere. Actually, I can image it. And that's one of the reasons why UT is in my top three.

Screw you, rain, you will not deter us from having our fun.

The water was actually fairly warm. Getting out of the water and sitting in the boat, with the wind, and it's a whole lot colder.

Lunch on the water afterward capped a fun PCL Day Trip, then it was back to the ballpark and time to get to work.
